Getting Ready to Top It Off!

$14.5M of $18M donated!

When the highest beam is installed in a building under construction, there is a celebration. It is called ‘topping off’ and acknowledges the effort and hard work of everyone involved in the project. The new Dundas Manor construction crew is very close to reaching this special milestone – so we had a celebration!

Front and centre was Joan Dunlop, representing all the residents. She was joined by MPP Nolan Quinn, Dundas Manor Board Chair Eldon Horner, CEO Cholly Boland, Administrator Susan Poirier, the WDMH Foundation team and some of the construction crew. Together, they signed a corner beam in the new building – a true cornerstone of the new home!

“Seniors in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry have given so much to our community, and it is imperative we support them in return,” said Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.  “The new Dundas Manor Long Term Care Home will improve the quality of life for all residents, and I look forward to Dundas Manor being able to deliver incredible care for even more SDSG seniors in the near future.”

Dundas Manor Board Chair Eldon Horner agreed: “It’s a moment of reflection, pride and celebration for the architects, construction crew, Dundas Manor Board and team members, and, of course, the residents. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us get to this point. Now the fun really begins!”

“We are almost there,” noted Administrator Susan Poirier. “Joan and all the current and future residents of Dundas Manor are so grateful for everyone’s support. Our team is busy planning for everything that needs to be done leading up to move-in day. We can’t wait!”

The new Dundas Manor will be more than double the size of the current home. There will be four resident home areas called Homesteads. Each one will have a wonderful gathering space as well as beautiful outdoor gardens nearby. Hallway dining will be a thing of the past as there will be four large, bright dining rooms with enough space for everyone. Rooms in the new home will be larger with more privacy – and everyone will have a window.

In fact, Joan took the opportunity to pick out her room, jokingly telling the construction team where she wants to be. And when she signed the beam, her message was clear: “Good room please!”.

“It was great to be part of this special day on behalf of all the donors who are truly part of this celebration,” added WDMH Foundation Interim Executive Director Cindy Ault Peters. “The WDMH Foundation continues to lead the fundraising efforts right alongside the construction of the new home and we are getting closer to our big goal. Thank you to the many donors who are helping to make the dream come true.”
